Quite common requirement seen across many Tenants is to have “Custom Role” for there user with some custom “Rights“. So i decided to write about it.
Occasionally requirement can be meet using the Predefined Roles which are:
- Organization Administration
- Catalog Author
- vApp Author
- vApp User
- Console Access Only
Sometimes, we create a Custom role with specific rights for there requirement.
In this post, i will provide a quick walk through for a Custom Role.
Step 1: Understand the “Rights” requirement, ensure they are not conflicting in any case.
Like maintaining the interdependency.
Step 2: Create the “Custom Role“:
On System Tab -> Administration -> Roles -> Click on +
- Select the Organization in which the role needs to be created.
- Provide the Name
- Select the Rights as per requirement.(As per Screenshot 2)
Confirm the right selecting by clicking “Show only Selected right” and Ok to finish.
Step 3: Assign the Custom Role to a User:
Navigate to the concerned Org vDC – tenant, Administration -> Members -> Users -> Click on +
- Create New User
- Assign Username & credentials
- Enable the User
- Role -> Assign the Custom Role from the drop down menu.
- Fill in the contacts info and Quota (if required) (as per Screenshot 4)
Confirmation:
Login to Tenant portal, by typing -> https://X.X.X.X/tenant/ORGNAME/
Login to the account using Admin01 username and confirm all the “Rights” assigned.
